General Plan Update available online

LĪHU’E – The General Plan Update is now available online at

“The General Plan is the County of Kaua‘i’s top-level policy document that provides guidance on growing responsibly into the future,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr, “to become a sustainable island, cherish the Garden Isle’s uniqueness and culture, encourage healthy and resilient people, and create equity and opportunity for everyone.”

This plan updates the last General Plan that was completed in 2000 and reflects the diverse community input that was collected over the last three years. To learn more about the General Plan process and community engagement, please check out the Plan Kaua‘i website at

As a reminder, hard copies of the General Plan Update are available for purchase upon completing the order form and submitting payment to the Department by April 20, 2018.  Order forms to request a hard copy of the General Plan Update are available at the Planning Department and the department’s website:

The Planning Department is also in the process of translating the General Plan into ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and Niihauan.  A future press release will be sent when these versions of the General Plan are available online and in hard copy form.
